Terms, refunds & privacy
What this is
Brain Switch is a study aid run by one UMass student. It reads the Canvas courses you are enrolled in, using an access token you create, and makes that material searchable by Claude or ChatGPT on your own account. It is provided as-is, with no guarantee of uptime or accuracy; always check the assistant's answers against the original material, which every answer links to.
Payment, cancelling, refunds
Access is $2 a month. An invite code comes with a free period and needs no card; when the free period ends, the connector pauses until you subscribe. When sign-up without a code is open, you enter a card and the first week is free: the first charge comes after that week, and then each month while you stay subscribed. Cancel any time from your account page; access continues to the end of the period you've paid for, then the connector pauses until you renew. If a charge doesn't go through, including the first one after a free period, the connector pauses until it does. If a charge shouldn't have happened, email the address on your receipt within 14 days of it and it will be refunded.
Privacy
- Your Canvas token is stored encrypted. It is used only to read your courses: files, pages, assignments, announcements, and the list of courses you're in. Nothing is ever written to Canvas.
- Course material is stored on a database server (Supabase) and shared only with people enrolled in the same course. Nobody sees a course they aren't in.
- Your questions are handled by Claude or ChatGPT, whichever you connect, not by this service; this service only returns matching course excerpts.
- The website remembers which announcements you've opened and when you last visited your dashboard, only to show you what's new.
- When a course's own material says something about AI tools, the course page shows you the passage and asks you to read it before you keep that course. It is a text match, not a ruling, and it can miss a rule: your syllabus and your instructor have the final word. The site remembers that you read it.
- Anything you add yourself (notes, handouts, transcripts) is stored for you alone. Only your own searches and your own assistant can read it, and you can delete it on the Notes page.
- Payments are handled by Stripe; this service sees only the email you paid with, the last four digits of the card, and a payment id.
- To leave: revoke the token in Canvas settings, and remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT. To have your account and token deleted from the server, email the address on your receipt.
Fair use
This is for studying and homework help. Don't use it to complete quizzes or exams that forbid outside help, and don't share course material with people who aren't in the course.
